Dr. Sandy Canzone brings over 30 years of study and practice to her teaching. She is a doctor of Oriental Medicine and a practitioner of Ayurvedic Medicine. She also practices Homeopathy, with extensive training in the Eastern understanding of nutrition. From 1999 to 2006 Sandy taught oncology massage at the Scherer Institute (Santa Fe School of Massage). She is the integrative medicine consultant for St. Vincent Regional Cancer Clinic, and she designed the hospital's Full Spectrum Wellness Awakening to Life Series for oncology patients, friends, family and health-care providers in Santa Fe. Sandy and her husband David have a private practice in Santa Fe, working extensively with cancer patients and their physicians.
Gayle Macdonald, MS, LMT is a health educator, writer, and bodyworker with more than thirty years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. Since 1994 she has supervised massage students on the oncology unit at Oregon Health and Science University. Gayle is the author of MEDICINE HANDS: Massage Therapy for People with Cancer (2nd Ed., Findhorn Press, 2006) and Massage for the Hospital Patient and the Medically Frail Client (Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins, 2004). Gayle also writes articles for Massage Magazine, Massage and Bodywork, and Massage Therapy Journal. She is a citizen of the world and teaches nationally and internationally.
Emilie Brough, DOM, LMT combines her 13 years as a practitioner and teacher of massage and herbal medicine into her acupuncture practice. She uses Oriental medicine, massage, reflexology and hot rock therapy to focus on acute and chronic pain management, general health support, and cancer care. Emilie is an instructor at the Santa Fe School of Massage (Scherer Institute) and supervises a student clinic at the Cancer Care Center at St. Vincent's Hospital. In addition to her private practice in Santa Fe she is a DOM at UNM's Integrative Medicine Clinic, the Center for Life.
Linda O’Donnell, PTA, CLT (LANA) has spent the last fifteen years focused on manual therapy and lymphedema treatment. She studied lymphatic therapy at the Vodder School in Austria. She has developed several hospital-based massage therapy programs and lymphedema treatment programs throughout the U.S. and is currently in private practice in Albuquerque.
Lonnie Howard, M.A. is the program administrator for the Peregrine Institute. She helped birth this oncology certification program with Gayle and Sandy at the Scherer Institute, now Santa Fe School of Massage, where she has been the director since 1985. It is a great joy for her to participate in the co-creation of the massage programs with both Scherer and Peregrine, and a delight to help nurture the students’ growth on many levels. Lonnie is also a poet and an avid birder.
